Student help
Everything you need to use Big Law Bear as a candidate. Skim the section that matches your question; if your answer isn’t here, email hello@biglawbear.com and we’ll get back to you within one business day.
Account & sign-in
Verifying your law-school email, switching emails, recovering access, deleting your account.
I can't sign in.
Try the password reset link on /login. The reset email arrives within ~30 seconds; if it doesn’t, check spam, then make sure you’re using the exact email you signed up with (some students sign up with their school email and try to log in later with a personal one).
Still stuck? Email hello@biglawbear.com and include the email you signed up with.
How do I verify my law-school email?
When you sign up with a .edu address from an ABA-accredited law school we recognize, we mark your account verified automatically.
If you used a personal email, go to /profile/edit and add your law-school email, we’ll send a verification link.
Can I change the email on my account?
Yes. From /profile/edit tap "Change email." We’ll send a confirmation link to the new address. Both addresses receive a notice when the change completes.
How do I delete my account?
Go to /settings → Privacy → Delete my account. We delete your profile within 48 hours and your sub-processors are notified within 30 days per our privacy policy. If a firm has already extended you an offer letter, you can keep that record for your own files; we keep the offer letter visible to that firm but redact your other data.
Applications & tracker
Applying to firms, withdrawing applications, the Tracker view, what each status means.
How do I apply to a firm?
From /firms open the firm’s page and click Apply. Your profile data fills the application; you only need to write the firm-specific fields (cover letter, why-firm, custom questions). Each firm has its own deadline + custom requirements.
How do I withdraw an application?
Open /firms, find the application, tap the menu, and choose Withdraw. You can leave a brief reason or skip it. The firm receives a polite note that you withdrew; they don’t see the reason unless you write one.
What do the application statuses mean?
- Submitted, the firm has received your materials.
- Screening, the firm has invited you to a first-round interview.
- Callback, the firm has invited you to meet attorneys at the office.
- Offer, they’ve made you an offer. Check your email for a signing link.
- Withdrawn, you withdrew the application, or it was auto-withdrawn because you accepted an offer elsewhere.
- Declined, the firm declined to move forward. They may include a brief reason; if not, write the firm directly to ask for feedback.
I accepted an offer. What happens to my other applications?
We auto-withdraw your other open applications (the firms get a polite "candidate accepted elsewhere" note) so you don’t have to manually decline each one. You stay in control: if you want to keep an application open for any reason, say, you’re weighing two offers, turn off the auto-withdraw from /settings before signing.
Gold Stars
Marking your top firms, the per-cycle limit, what firms see, removing a star.
What is a Gold Star?
A Gold Star tells the firm "I’m genuinely interested", it’s a way to surface signal above the noise of generic applications. Your starred firms see your interest on their candidate dashboard.
How many Gold Stars do I get?
Up to five per recruiting cycle. The cap keeps the signal meaningful, if everyone could star every firm, the signal would be useless. We re-stock your stars at the start of each cycle.
Can I remove a Gold Star?
Yes, from your dashboard or the firm’s page. The firm sees the change immediately. Removing and re-adding stars costs you both, best to be deliberate.
Offer letters
Reviewing, signing, declining, and downloading offer letters.
Where do I find an offer letter the firm sent me?
Two places: (1) your email inbox, the firm’s "Offer of Employment" email contains a one-time signing link, and (2) your dashboard, which lists every active offer with a link.
I lost the signing email. Can I get a new link?
From /dashboard, tap the offer card and click "Resend signing link." If the offer has expired, contact the firm directly, they can extend the deadline and we’ll mint a fresh link.
How do I download my signed offer letter?
Right after you sign, the confirmation page has a prominent "Download your signed copy" button, we strongly recommend saving the PDF to your records. You can also re-download from /dashboard anytime; the link is permanent for accepted offers.
How do I decline an offer politely?
On the offer page, tap "Decline" and write a brief note (a sentence or two is fine). The firm receives your note plus an automatic withdrawal-of-other-firms email goes nowhere, decline doesn’t affect your other applications. Big Law is a small world; a graceful decline matters.
Interviews
Scheduling, rescheduling, virtual links, prep packets.
How do I pick an interview slot?
When the firm invites you to interview, you get an email with a "Book a slot" link. The link shows you the firm’s available times; pick one and you get an instant confirmation, plus an .ics calendar invite.
How do I reschedule?
Most firms accept rescheduling up to 24 hours before the interview. From your dashboard or the booking confirmation email, click "Reschedule", you’ll see the firm’s remaining slots. If no slots work, write the firm’s recruiting team directly.
Where’s the meeting link for my virtual interview?
In two places: your booking confirmation email, and the calendar event your interviewer’s system added when you booked. We mint a Zoom or Google Meet URL automatically depending on the firm’s preferred provider, so you don’t have to wait for the firm to send one separately.
Email & notifications
Marketing vs. transactional emails, per-firm preferences, fixing too-many-emails problems.
I'm getting too many emails. How do I cut them down?
From /settings → Per-firm email preferences, you can turn off MARKETING email from any firm you’ve interacted with (Gold Star, applied, or received outreach). Transactional emails , interview confirmations, offer letters, scheduling links , always go through.
You can also unsubscribe from the BigLaw Bear weekly digest from the same page.
What's the difference between marketing and transactional email?
- Marketing = cold outreach, recruiting campaigns, weekly digests, alerts. You can turn these off per-firm or globally.
- Transactional= interview confirmations, offer envelopes, status changes on an active application. These always go through; they’re the recruiting process working.
Can I unsubscribe from BigLaw Bear emails entirely?
Yes, but doing so will cut off legitimate transactional email about your applications too, that's why we keep it behind a deliberate "global unsubscribe" rather than per-email links. From /settings scroll to the bottom and click "Unsubscribe from all email." You can re-subscribe at any time.
AI features & fairness
What AI we use, what data it sees, how to opt out.
How does AI affect my applications?
Big Law Bear uses AI to help recruiters sort applications faster and to assist interviewers during live conversations. AI does not hire or reject anyone on its own.Every signal goes through a human at the firm before it affects your candidacy. Read the full methodology at /legal/ai-methodology.
Can I opt out?
Yes. From /settings you can disable AI prescreen on your applications without penalty, your application still goes through normal human review. You can also decline AI consent on interviews (Illinois candidates and any candidate who chooses).
