What BigLaw Bear stores when you apply

This is what a firm receives when you apply on this site, who at the firm can open it, and how to take it back.

When this applies

Only when you press Apply on a firm that takes applications here. If a firm sends you to its own site, nothing is submitted through BigLaw Bear and the firm’s own privacy terms apply to what you give it.

What the firm receives

From your profile

  • Name, email and phone
  • Law school and class year
  • Undergraduate school and major
  • Undergraduate GPA and LSAT score
  • LinkedIn address (you can use a different one for a single application)
  • Preferred cities and practice areas

These are read from your profile when the firm opens your application. They are not a frozen copy, so an edit to your profile shows up on applications you already sent.

Your documents

The resume and law school transcript on your profile attach automatically. The firm opens them through a link that stops working after one hour. If you have not uploaded one, the form says so and none is sent.

What you fill in on the form

  • Primary and additional offices, and practice groups, when the firm asks
  • Cover letter and why-this-firm answers, when the firm asks
  • Answers to the firm's own questions
  • References you enter (name, title, email and phone)

The application record

Its status (submitted, screening, callback, offer, declined or withdrawn) and when you submitted it. That status also appears in your tracker, and in your career office’s view if you chose to share your tracker with them.

The hide option

On the form you can hide your undergraduate GPA, LSAT score, undergraduate school, major, phone or LinkedIn for one application, unless the firm requires that field. The firm’s views of that application leave the hidden fields out, and so do its packets, shares, exports and connected recruiting systems. The choice covers that application only. If your profile is visible to firms in search, they can still see those fields on your profile there.

Who at the firm can see it

  • Members of that firm’s recruiting team who have access to its applications. Other firms on the platform do not see your application.
  • Opening a resume or transcript directly is limited to team members the firm has allowed to view documents. Each open is a one-hour link for that person.
  • Team members who can change application status and are allowed to view documents can email an application packet, including your resume, to anyone they choose.
  • BigLaw Bear administrators, for support and to keep the service running.

Firms can export applications and download candidate packets. Document links in an export are only included for team members allowed to view documents. A copy a firm has already downloaded is theirs, and we cannot pull it back.

Withdraw or delete

  • Withdraw one application. Email us at tulio@biglawbear.com and we will mark it withdrawn. The record stays so the firm’s own history stays accurate.
  • Delete everything. Delete your account in Settings. Your profile and uploaded documents are removed. Your applications stay on the firm’s side as withdrawn records, with your cover letter, answers, references, document links and any LinkedIn override erased. Our privacy policy sets the limit at 30 days for documents, and names the few records the law may require us to keep.
  • Change your documents. Replace a resume or transcript from your profile. Firms open the current file when they click, not an old copy.
